First episode of season 2. Now fancier looking and with a new host!
According to a quest in Mount Hyjal, the Cult of the Damned, the Scourge's mortal followers, have spies within the Twilight's Hammer. This plot thread has not yet been expanded upon.
The Scourge are the only ones capable of working with Saronite, the blood of the Old God Yogg-Saron, since his maddening powers have no effect on people who have no minds. After the defection of the death knights of Acherus, new Scourge Necropoli are also made of this metal, making them nigh-indestructible.
(A small addendum; what I meant to say is that the Scourge are the only ones capable of working with raw saronite in a casual manner; everyone else has to purify it first)
After the Scourge destroyed the Nerubian society, they came across ancient Tol'vir, which the Nerubians had enslaved. These became the Obsidian Destroyers from Warcraft 3. A similar construct was created by the Qiraji, altough with no apparent basis on Tol'vir themselves.
The Scourge started experiments in Vanilla to create their own dragonflight, by taking black dragon eggs from the Burning Steppes, infusing them with plague, and growing them. Personally, I'm not sure how something that is dead can continue growing.
According to Ask CDev, both Ner'zhul and Arthas were holding back from unleashing their full forces during their respective reigns as the Lich King. We are "welcome to speculate on the reasons".
Ner'zhul's initial power base after arriving in Northrend were the human colonies on the southern coast of the continent. They were the first ones to be enslaved by the Lich King, before the Nerubians after the Spider War.
Kudos to Pride and Riorus for helping improve the visuals!
